Perhaps the key moment of the game for Ireland. Parrott really should have put Kenny’s men back ahead, he will be rueing that miss tonight.
Scotland’s first goal here:
The penalty incident and the penalty scored by Christie for Scotland.
FULL-TIME: Scotland 2 Ireland 1
Stephen Kenny’s men have been beaten in Hampden Park. A frustrating result after they had led the game af half-time. A pulsating battle in Glasgow, Ireland had the opportunities for a result, particularly after Parrott’s bad miss. It means they need a result against Armenia on Tuesday to stay in League B of the Nations League.
91 mins: Scotland counter from an Ireland corner and Fraser dribbles and cuts in but his shot is wide. Coleman tries a cheeky flick but his shot is right into Gordon’s hands. Another cross into the box sees Knight tamely hit at the keeper. Robbie Brady gets a yellow for stopping another counter on Fraser.
Scotland 2 Ireland 1
87 mins: More substitutions as Robbie Brady comes on, Che Adams for Scotland. A brawl breaks out after McGinn gets away with another bad tackle. Yellow for Knight and McTominay.
Scotland 2 Ireland 1
82 mins: Penalty for Scotland! Browne judged to have handled the ball from the corner. Disaster. It’s a strange incident, Browne’s hands were in the air after being pushed but it’s hard to see. Coleman gets a yellow card for dissent.
GOAL FOR SCOTLAND! Ryan Christie rolls it down the middle past Bazunu. Gutting for Ireland.
Scotland 2 Ireland 1
79 mins: Coleman makes brilliant pass to the wing to McClean and a nice cross into the middle is well defended by Christie. A few moments later, another great block by Egan. The three centre backs have been warriors tonight.
Scotland 1 Ireland 1
77 mins: Christie rushes through and Egan fouls and takes his yellow card. Doherty looks spent so no surprise that he is subbed off for Seamus Coleman. Callum Robinson also comes in for Troy Parrott. Jayson Molumby comes off for Alan Browne.
Scotland 1 Ireland 1
71 mins: Great save by Bazunu. Fraser cuts inside on his left but Bazunu makes a strong save. Ireland under pressure. Doherty redeems himself with a great defensive area at the back post from the corner.
Scotland 1 Ireland 1
68 mins: Ogbene electric again and dribbles through. McClean’s cross ends up with Molumby’s shot and his shot is blocked. A few moments later, McGinn claims a penalty from a Doherty tangle but referee does not agree.
Scotland 1 Ireland 1
64 mins: More great play by sub Ogbene, who causes all sorts of problems for McKenna, who fouls and is booked. Free-kick in a good position. Cullen’s pass to the back post doesn’t lead to anything though.
Scotland 1 Ireland 1
62 mins: Substitutions for both teams Hickey and Armstrong off for Scotland for Ralston and Fraser. Chiedozie Ogbene on for Michael Obafemi. End to end stuff now with both teams going for it. Ogbene chases down the defender and Gordon nearly gives the ball to him in front of goal. The Scottish keeper gets away with it.
Scotland 1 Ireland 1
56 mins: Good spell for Scotland as they take control of the match. Nice little pass by McGinn into Dykes is well blocked by O’Shea. McTominay puts in excellent cross for Dykes but fantastic header by Collins. Counter by Ireland and it’s two on one. Obafemi plays Parrott in one on one on the keeper... but he fluffs his lines! Straight at the keeper. Poor.
Scotland 1 Ireland 1
52 mins: Molumby wins the ball intercepts and plays into Doherty who cuts in and blazes to the left and wide. Good chance missed. McGinn takes a long range shot but his shot flies past the post.
Scotland 1 Ireland 1
50 mins: GOAL FOR SCOTLAND! Hendry drives through Collins style. Christie gets the ball on the wing and beats Doherty far too easily. He puts in a perfect cross for Hendry who scores a fine header in off the post. Bazunu no chance. Disappointing for Ireland.
Scotland 1 Ireland 1
47 mins: Doherty wins the ball and dribbles through but his pass is slightly overhit. Knight doesn’t choose the right option and the attack fades. Lively start to this half for Ireland though.
Scotland 0 Ireland 1
Watch John Egan’s goal:
45 mins: Uh oh, another foul by Cullen just a few moments after his yellow card. Lucky to get away with that one. Scotland have a free-kick in a dangerous area but leads to nothing... and it’s half-time! Ireland go in ahead thanks to John Egan’s fine finish, Stephen Kenny will be delighted with the score and performance at the break.
Scotland 0 Ireland 1

Scotland 0 Ireland 1
35 mins: Collins drives through midfield again impressively with another mazy run but Obafemi fouls McTominay. Doherty takes a nice touch and pass to McClean. Good cross into Parrott forces a save but it’s given as foul against Tierney.

Scotland 0 Ireland 1

Scotland 0 Ireland 1
26 mins: Ireland are energised after the early goal. Defensive and midfield shape looks strong in limiting Scotland and some good pressing. Christie tries to play in Armstrong but its overhit again for Scotland.
Scotland 0 Ireland 1
18 mins: GOAL FOR IRELAND! John Egan pulls on the ball from the corner and it’s an excellent low finish. Earlier, Obafemi won a breaking ball, but a little slow with delivery to Parrott on the break. Scotland get back and his shot is blocked by Hendry. Good corner for Ireland is taken by McClean and it falls to Egan and he scores!
Scotland 0 Ireland 1
15 mins: Another bad tackle by McGinn, on Jason Knight this time. Very lucky to avoid a booking. Doherty wins the ball from a header but is judged to have fouled Tierney harshly.
Scotland 0 Ireland 0
12 mins: Goal disallowed for Ireland! O’Shea plays an excellent pass and Parrott runs through, dummying the defence and putting it away. But it’s offside. Shame.
Scotland 0 Ireland 0
9 mins: McTominay has a one-two with Dykes but his cross is blocked into Bazunu. Ireland lose the ball cheaply, not a high-quality start by either team.
Scotland 0 Ireland 0
6 mins: Ryan Christie takes a shot from distance but misses the target from range. Ireland struggling to get a foothold on the game. John McGinn flattens McClean, letting him know he’s there. Could be some hard tackles tonight.
Scotland 0 Ireland 0

Scotland 0 Ireland 0
Watch Michael Obafemi’s stunning goal against Scotland the last time these two teams met. What he would do for the same tonight.
Malachy Clerkin writes that there is a significant gap in quality between Scotland and Ireland but Scotland can be a yardstick for Stephen Kenny in terms of success. He points out Brian Kerr’s first game as manager was a 2-0 victory over Scotland at Hampden Park in 2003. Kenny would take that tonight and sprint to the airport.
