Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has signed a season-long loan deal at Fenerbahce.

The 21-year-old Serbia international had been linked with a move to the Turkish giants earlier this week and had not featured for Brendan Rodgers’ side as yet this season after making his Reds debut 12 months ago.

Liverpool confirmed the news on Twitter, saying: “Lazar Markovic has completed a season-long loan switch to Fenerbahce, #LFC can confirm.”

Markovic began his career at Partizan Belgrade and moved to the Premier League last summer following a successful season-long stint with Benfica where he scored five goals in 26 appearances and helped the Portuguese side win their 33rd Primeira Liga title.

Markovic has made 34 appearances and scored three goals for the Reds since his move from Portugal last summer with his last outing coming as a late substitute in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over QPR at the end of last term.

The 20-cap Serbian will remain with Super Lig runners-up Fenebahce for the whole of the 2015-16 season.

Fenebahce tweeted: “Welcome To Lazar Markovic! ( LMarkec50).”

And they released a statement on their official website, which read: “Our club has completed transfer talks with Serbian player Lazar Markovic on a one-year loan from Liverpool.

“We would like to welcome Lazar Markovic to Fenerbahce and wish them a great season with a full of success.”
