Premier League round-up: Mame Biram Diouf scored a sensational winner as Stoke claimed a shock 1-0 win over champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Diouf ran from deep inside his own half to nutmeg Joe Hart after 58 minutes and hand the Potters a first top-flight away victory over City since 1980.
Diouf, who was denied a penalty in the first half, might also have scored an instant second as City lost their composure.
City, who had won their previous seven Premier League matches, wanted a spot-kick themselves late on but Yaya Toure was booked for diving after a challenge by Erik Pieters.
Toure had earlier had one of City’s best chances when he struck the bar in the latter stages of the first half.
City's slip saw Swansea go top of the Premier League as West Brom were swept aside 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium.
Garry Monk's men extended their 100 per cent record to three games as a Nathan Dyer double and a spectacular volley from Wayne Routledge rewarded some excellent Swansea approach play.
But Swansea were also aided by some pitiful defending, with West Brom still seeking their first league victory under new manager Alan Irvine. Morgan Schneiderlin scored twice as Southampton secured a first Premier League win for new manager Ronald Koeman by beating West Ham 3-1 at Upton Park.
The France midfielder – who had been linked with a move to join former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham – produced a couple of fine close-range efforts either side of half-time as the visitors came from behind following Mark Noble's deflected effort.
Graziano Pelle, signed for €10million from Koeman's old club Feyenoord, wrapped things up with seven minutes left,. That sparked a rush to the exits for the home fans, following a second home defeat in the space of a week for manager Sam Allardyce whose team were knocked out of the Capital One Cup on penalties by League One side Sheffield United.
Neil Warnock's return to the manager's post at Crystal Palace got off to the ideal start against Newcastle and finished with a bang too as his side claimed a thrilling 3-3 draw.
Dwight Gayle opened the scoring inside the first minute for Palace at St James' Park, but Darryl Janmaat fired the Magpies level before the break.
Although Jason Puncheon, fined by the English Football Association in March for launching a Twitter tirade against Warnock, restored the Eagles' lead three minutes after the restart, Rolando Aarons made it 2-2 and Mike Williamson bundled home a third for the hosts with two minutes to go. But Wilfried Zaha, on loan from Manchester United, equalised five minutes into stoppage time to earn Palace a first point of the season.
Charlie Austin eased QPR into life without Loic Remy by ending the Loftus Road club's new-season goal drought in a 1-0 victory over Sunderland.
The former Burnley striker bagged his first Premier League goal to end Rangers’ 315-minute scoring drought in their fourth clash of the new campaign.
Harry Redknapp’s men were desperate for both goals and points after successive defeats to Hull, Tottenham and Burton, and had Austin to thank for a thumping first-half finish.
Chelsea triggered Remy’s release clause, with the France striker withdrawn from action in QPR’s home league clash.
The 27-year-old failed a medical at Liverpool at the start of the summer, but is now set to complete his Stamford Bridge move to replace AC Milan-bound Fernando Torres.
Rangers will chase a new striker before the 11pm transfer deadline on Monday night, with Ajax’s Kolbeinn Sigthorsson heavily touted as heading to west London.
