Stuart Pearce has said it is "very likely" he will be manager of Nottingham Forest next season.

The former England Under-21s coach turned down the job following initial talks last week, citing family reasons, but he has made a U-turn and is in discussions about taking over at the end of this campaign.

“I’m still talking with Nottingham Forest and I’m due to go up and meet them tomorrow,” he told TalkSport.

Pressed on whether he will be the manager next season, Pearce said: “It’s very likely.” Forest expect to confirm his appointment on Thursday.

Pearce spent 12 years at the City Ground as a player and said on Wednesday that he still had a lot of affection for the club. “It’s a great club and one that’s very close to my heart.”

Billy Davies was sacked by Forest's owner and chairman, Fawaz al-Hasawi, last week with Gary Brazil taking temporary charge.

Pearce spent two years as Manchester City’s manager before becoming the England Under-21s coach in 2007.
