Just days before the start of the new eircom League season Sligo Rovers find themselves without a full-time manager after the club accepted Rob McDonald's resignation last night.
McDonald, who took over at the end of last season, appears to have left by mutual consent but the main stumbling block was in finalising his contract. Rovers had agreed a two-year contract with their manager but McDonald was left frustrated as no contract was ever signed.
The former Newcastle United striker informed the club's chairman of his decision on Sunday evening - according to the club's website - then declined the offer to reconsider. The first team squad, who are due to play Galway United at Terryland Park on Friday night, were notified of the news yesterday morning before training.
Leo Tierney and Dessie Cawley will take charge of team affairs on an interim basis
