Crumlin United 1 Dundalk 3
Superbly struck first goals for the club from Seán Hoare and Steven Kinsella proved more than enough to ease Dundalk through to the quarter-finals of the FAI Cup against non-league Crumlin at the Iveagh Grounds in Dublin.
Ger Rowe wasted an early chance for Crumlin before Dundalk took a 19th-minute lead when the unmarked David McMillan headed home Michael Duffy’s free kick.
The Leinster Senior League side hit back three minutes later with a terrific direct free kick from Jake Donnelly.
Dominant Dundalk restored their lead on 32 minutes, central defender Hoare left with too much time and space to hit a sublime strike from over 30 yards that arrowed to the corner of goalkeeper Michael Quinn’s net.
Quinn, who saved two penalties in their first round win at Wexford, did precisely that again to parry an 88th-minute spot kick from McMillan onto a post.
But substitute Kinsella added Dundalk’s third goal in stoppage time, crashing home a first time volley from Duffy’s cross.
