SLIGO ROVERS 2 LIMERICK 0 Seánie Maguire inspired Sligo Rovers to a hard-earned win over Limerick in probably his last game for the club last night.

Maguire’s loan deal from West Ham United expires at the end of July, and given a rare start on the wing, the Kilkenny native excelled, scoring the first and creating the second for Danny North.

Rovers dominated and created numerous chances, but had to wait until the 84th minute before taking the lead through Maguire’s close range header.

It came after Evan McMillan – who came off the bench as a makeshift striker to great effect – headed David Cawley’s pinpoint cross goalwards for Maguire to get the last touch to help it over the line.

The second goal arrived in the last minute of stoppage-time as Martin Russell pushed men forward to try and rescue a point, and Maguire countered before releasing North, who took a heavy touch but still managed to flick the ball to the net under keeper Shane Cusack.

Maguire and North both had decent chances before the former eventually found the breakthrough and then set up North.
