Medyk Konin 6 Wexford Youths 0
Wexford Youths Women’s AFC suffered a set-back in their bid to reach the Round of 32 in the Uefa Women’s Champions League after they went down to a heavy defeat to Medyk Konin in Poland yesterday.
Will Doyle’s side were hopeful of building on Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Gintra Universitetas on Tuesday but an early goal from Katarzyna Daleszczyk knocked the National League champions off guard
Even though they played extremely well in patches they were unable to dominate in the searing afternoon heat and the pressure told as Aleksandra Sikora added a second goal on 18 minutes to give them a 2-0 half-time lead.
Medyk Konin raised the tempo after the break and fired in four more goals with Daleszczyk netting a second while Patricia Balcerzak nabbed a brace and Agata Tarczynska was also on target.
Wexford will now switch their focus towards Sunday’s final qualifying game in Group Seven when they meet Cardiff Met, who have conceded 10 goals in their two defeats so far.
