As part of its commitment to maintaining an unparalleled foreign network, The Irish Times is seeking applications for the position of Europe Correspondent.
Based in Brussels, this is a high-profile and challenging correspondent post. The successful candidate will have a proven track record as a specialist reporter who has shown the ability to provide authoritative and original analysis and opinion as well as fast, accurate and comprehensive news reportage.
The role involves covering a wide range of issues including EU political, economic, environmental, legal, constitutional and cultural issues along with other news stories from throughout Europe. Reporting from Brussels, the post will involve filing several times daily for digital and print. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a keen knowledge and understanding of the overall development of EU and European affairs, particularly in the context of Brexit, as well as reflecting on and explaining issues regarding Ireland’s participation in the union.
Although based in Brussels, the post involves considerable travel, sometimes at short notice in order to produce insightful and distinctive reportage from around Europe.
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their ability to work on their own initiative in originating coverage. They should also be able to provide evidence of good organisational skills and the ability to work well under pressure and to deliver stories to multiple deadlines, in line with our mobile digital strategy. The person appointed will be expected to provide commentary or reportage on Irish Times audio and video services and to represent The Irish Times on other media platforms and outlets. The role will require a high degree of flexibility.
