Dublin-based healthcare firm Biotrin International has been named winner of the DHL Exporter of the Year Award 2003.
Biotrin, established in 1992 by Dr Cormac G Kilty, provides niche-market proprietary tests for hospital laboratories, clinicians and research scientists.
Employing 64 people, it exports to 50 countries across North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Almost all of the company's revenue is accounted for by such exports.
Announcing the award, Mr John Hogan, managing director, DHL UK and Ireland, said the winner stood out for its achievements on a number of fronts - "its exciting product development innovations, strong management skills and its ability to win market share internationally".
"We were particularly impressed by the company's ability to overcome the enormous challenge of attaining US FDA [Food and Drug Administration\] approved tests, a clear indicator of Biotrin's quality solution in parvovirus testing."
The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Ms Harney, presented the winning entry with a specially commissioned trophy, a voucher for €5,000 worth of DHL international shipments and a €10,000 cheque for overseas marketing.
Software firm AM-BEO, Donegal-based seafood exporter Atlanfish, clothing design company Libra Designs and Limerick's Shannon Minerals were shortlisted for the award.
