Stocks climbed higher yesterday, powered by the twin engines of positive corporate earnings and new data showing the US economy has cooled to the point of potentially warding off further central bank interest-rate increases.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended up 210.50 points, or 2.03 per cent, at 10,590.62, while the Nasdaq composite index edged 5.89 points higher at 3,278.07.
