John Kennedy, who died on Saturday aged 67, was one of the best known figures in the Dublin property industry.
A native of Courtown, Co Wexford, he was a partner in accountants Arthur Andersen until 1973 when he and Sean McKeon set up the highly successful property development company, Sheelin Homes.
Sheelin developed some of the most high profile residential schemes in south Dublin, starting with Roebuck Lawn in Clonskeagh, followed by developments such as Merrion Village, Hazeldene and Grove House in Milltown.
In 1991 the company also developed Omni Park shopping centre and entertainment complex at Santry in the north inner city. Almost a decade ago the two directors decided to pursue their business interests separately: McKeon set up MKN Properties while Kennedy helped to establish Sheelin McSharry.
John Kennedy is survived by his widow, Mary, sons, John and Brian, and daughters Geraldine, Jennifer, Ann and Ruth.
