Here’s a reliable measure of the veracity of reports that Ireland is in economic recovery: backslapping is in vogue once more in the construction industry.

The deadline for entries for the Irish Construction Industry awards is in two weeks. The awards ceremony will take place in June in the Ballsbridge Hotel. There are 25 categories, which is more than the Oscars.

The ceremony, which is being run by an events marketing company, is the perfect opportunity for members of the industry to achieve recognition and promotion, say the organisers.

The Irish Independent, the awards website says, is media partner for the event. This ensures nationwide editorial coverage for all winners and nominees, it says. Just don't tell Joe Higgins, the Socialist TD on the banking inquiry.

Entry is free, but tickets for the ceremony cost almost €1,900 for a table of 10.
