An inquiry into two Dunnes Stores companies initiated by the Tanaiste, Ms Harney, could be delayed for three to six months following the granting of a stay in the High Court yesterday.
Dunnes was granted leave to seek a judicial review of the appointment of authorised officer Mr Gerard Ryan to Dunnes Stores (Ireland) Company and Dunnes Stores (Ilac) Ltd and a stay on Mr Ryan's work until the matter is decided.
Earlier this week Mr Ryan wrote to the companies with a list of documents he wanted furnished by today.
The decision of the High Court means his work is now stalled until the matter is decided. The appointment of the authorised officer was already the subject of a judicial review. Last November, Ms Justice Laffoy rejected arguments from Dunnes against the appointment but ruled that Ms Harney should supply the companies with reasons for her decision. That process led to Mr Ryan being denied the right to serve an order on the companies prior to January 4th.
