A Longford-based renewable energy company has begun building a presence in the US.
Airsynergy has installed its intelligent smart poles, or ISPs, in four US locations across New York and Chicago.
The company’s ISP is a pole that uses wind and solar power to charge itself off the grid. The pole also records data about air pollutants. It is used to power street lights, security cameras and electric fences, among other things. As the pole doesn’t use any cables, and has an internal battery unit, it can only power whatever is fitted to it. The pole’s battery has up to 12 days of storage.
Commenting on the news, Gerry Butler, the company's chief executive, said: "Our sales in the US have gone extremely well. The data has demonstrated that our technology has been very effective and we have just received an order for a further 90 ISPs.
“We are globally ambitious and we have full confidence that our technology is the best in the world in the cleantech sector.”
In Ireland, Airsynergy has renewable energy units installed across the country, most recently in Drogheda. It has also installed ISPs in Germany.
The company is currently involved in a funding round undertaken by Focus Consulting, a Limerick-based corporate finance house.
