Basketball Ireland, the all-island governing body for the sport, has invited well-known forensic accountant and business adviser Michael Flynn to sit on its board. Flynn, who was previously represented Ireland on the board of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is known to pull no punches.
He popped up on our television screens last year during the RTÉ documentary Inside Irish Nationwide by journalists Richard Curran, now with IN&M, and Tom Lyons, of this newspaper.
Flynn described a report into the actions of the building society when it was run by Michael Fingleton as "terrifying".
Flynn was an accomplished b-baller himself in his youth, playing for Greenwich in London, and was also an underage international.
A slam dunk appointment.
