"The current tax regime allows you to receive monthly or annual travel passes from your employer without paying any benefit-in-kind." This does not apply to daily or 10-journey tickets.

If, for example, you travel to Dublin for work you could receive £60 (€76.18) a month or £720 a year tax free says the Consumers' Association of Ireland publication. This is based on a monthly adult bus and rail short-hop ticket in Dublin. It shouldn't take much to convince employers as they save employer PRSI of either 12 per cent or 8.5 per cent depending on the employee's earnings.
