New Eircom broadband packages
Eircom has introduced a new range of broadband and calls packages. The products combine "always on" broadband with two of Eircom's Talktime call packages - After Hours and Anytime.
Customers can access 1MB broadband with unlimited off-peak local and national calls for €49.99 a month, including line rental. A similar package with a 2MB broadband connection will cost €54.99 a month.
The same services with unlimited landline calls at any time will cost either €54.99 or €59.99, depending on the size of the broadband connection.
Construction of IT unit at UCC begins
University College Cork has begun construction on its new 15,800sq m (170,069sq ft) three-storey IT building.
The project, which represents an investment of €60 million, will take two years to complete.
NI firm wins Gulf state contracts
Northern Irish firm Qwizdom (UK) has won a number of contracts in the Arabian gulf following a recent Invest NI trade mission.
The Dundonald, Co Down, developer of interactive learning technology for the education and corporate sectors will supply systems to further education colleges in Dubai and Oman as well as to Qatar Telecom.
Research initiative focuses on women
An initiative to promote the advancement of women researchers in science, engineering and technology has been launched in UCC. The initiative is one of three Institute Development Awards funded by SFI - the others are in Trinity College Dublin and the University of Limerick.
