The Dublin GAA county board has appointed former football star Tomás Quinn as commercial manager. Mossy Quinn, as he is known, will be charged with liaising with sponsors and generating new income streams to fund the capital’s footballing and hurling squads.
Separately, Leinster rugby has poached Paul Dermody from the GAA as its new commercial manager. Dermody had worked for the GAA since 2008 in senior commercial and sponsorship roles.
Quinn’s appointment with Dublin is expected to be announced this week. He will be one of the few commercial managers employed directly by GAA county boards. Dublin has been without a commercial chief since the late 1990s.
Dublin is one of the best funded GAA counties and recently signed a five-year deal with global insurer AIG worthy €800,000 annually. It also has a kit contract with Irish manufacturer O'Neill's and secondary deals with the Gibson Hotel, Coca-Cola and the Herald newspaper.
Quinn would be expected to expand its second-tier sponsorships and to bring some structure to the link of county players with sponsors. He previously worked for Dalkia, the services company run by former Dubs boss Pat Gilroy.
Quinn was a member of the Dublin squad that won the Sam Maguire in 2011 by defeating Kerry. He retired from inter-county football in 2012 but still plays for his club St Vincent's in Marino.
