Omniplex Cinema Group will shortly begin building new five-screen cinemas in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, and Mullingar, Co Westmeath, with both sites scheduled to open in autumn 2022.

Extensive renovations to a four-screen cinema in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, are also scheduled to be completed before Christmas 2021, Ireland's largest exhibition group said.

Omniplex, which is owned by the Anderson family and has 260 screens at 34 locations, is investing more than €11 million in the three projects, creating more than 100 jobs during construction and 65 full- and part-time jobs when operational.

The group also recently announced that a new nine-screen cinema in CastleCourt, Belfast, will open before Christmas 2022, as part a refit of the shopping centre following the closure of Debenhams.
