A website dedicated to GAA "news and views" was officially introduced yesterday at Croke Park by former RTE journalist and the current media relations manager at Intel Ireland, Mr Liam Cahill.

The website, www.anfearrua.com, will be updated daily. It is fronted by two colourful characters, "An Fear Rua", a seanachai type with an unruly mop of red hair, and "An Maor", an animated steward.

It includes online shopping, interactive polls, a discussion board, free e-mail accounts, an exchange of GAA memorabilia, links to other GAA sites worldwide and a virtual GAA pub crawl.

At a function to introduce the site, Mr Cahill said its commercial potential lay in its fans and advertisers buying into the An Fear Rua brand.

Mr Cahill has entirely funded the project with £140,000 (€177,890) through his company Cahill Sports Emporium. But further funding may be sought through second-round financing sometime early next year, he added.
