General business confidence has increased "rapidly" in Northern Ireland in the past four months with confidence reaching the highest level for any UK region, according to the Confederation of British Industry in its latest regional trends survey.

The main factor behind the surge in business confidence was an increase in total output after declines suffered over the previous eight months.

However, with export deliveries continuing to decline, the growth in output reflected increased sales into the domestic UK market.
