A projected 74 per cent increase in telephone numbers in circulation over the next four years has prompted the telecoms regulator to order a review of the national numbering scheme. The regulator is proposing to extend new telephone numbers in the Dublin area to eight digits, merge some regional codes and add digits to some other areas.
