The British government has reached agreement with leading British banks over offering universal banking services through the Post Office network.

Trade Secretary Mr Stephen Byers said in a statement he had reached "agreement in principle" with Barclays, Lloyds TSB, Royal Bank of Scotland, Abbey National and the Halifax to contribute to universal banking services at the Post Office.
