The European Central Bank is perhaps best known for false leads and lack of direction to the market about coming moves on interest rates. But one Irish trader got a jump on ECB director Ms Sirkka Hamaleinen while she was in Dublin this week.

Ms Hamaleinen said she had no intention of revealing when rates would next come down, at which point one of the traders interrupted: "Well, at least we now know they're not going up."
