Copper Face Jacks is going contactless. But before you get the wrong idea, let's be clear on one thing: it's contactless payments that the Dublin nightclub is embracing.

The club is the latest business to convert to the technology, which is gaining acceptance throughout Ireland. More than 3 million contactless debit or credit cards are in use in Ireland, despite an initial slow start to the technology, and over 35,000 Irish businesses will accept the cards.

“Coppers is one of the busiest and most popular night clubs in Ireland, and is a true Dublin institution,” said Barry Gray, Head of Marketing at BOI Payments Acceptance.

The increase in transactions is being attributed to the raising of the value limit to €30 several months ago. So a (small) round of drinks can now be charged to a contactless card in the club.

For businesses, it means less handling of cash, and transactions can be processed more quickly. For customers, it’s less fumbling about for change or trips to the ATM.
