Golden Discs is to open a new "concept store" at its flagship Dundrum Town Centre location in Dublin on Saturday.
The company said the new store format will be dedicated to “super fans and lovers of popular culture”. It will stock a range of products including posters, books, bags, stationary and merchandise from Marvel, DC, Lucas film, Game of Thrones and Harry Potter among others.
There will also be a range of licensed clothing, including t-shirts, hoodies and baseball caps from films and television shows.
The store will also carry pop culture products and specialist collectibles and figurines from the world of film and entertainment, as well as gaming and growing subgenres like Manga and Pokemon.
“We’ve seen huge increase in demand for merchandise over past few years and the time has come for a dedicated store to serve this growing market,” said Golden Discs chief executive Stephen Fitzgerald.
“For many, pop culture product is an impulse gift purchase but we are also meeting the demands of the super fans and devotees who are looking for the coolest fresh merchandise and must-have collectibles.”
Vinyl focus
Separately, Golden Discs is also running a “record store day”, which focuses on vinyl, across all its stores on Saturday. The event will also be hosted online from Sunday.
Branches in Dundrum, the Vinyl Lounge on Patrick’s Street in Cork, Eyre Square in Galway, and Jervis Street in Dublin are the main locations for vinyl records, the group said.
Golden Discs is offering a 20 per cent discount on all legacy releases this week, but online only.
“For fans of Irish music, U2’s 1982 single A Celebration will receive a 40th anniversary 12-inch reissue, complete with two previously unreleased recordings,” said Mr Fitzgerald.
“Another classic celebrates the 40th anniversary of its original release: Thin Lizzy lead singer Phil Lynott’s 1982 solo album the Philip Lynott Album is newly mastered and released on 180gm vinyl.
“And in celebration and remembrance of the late Dolores O’Riordan, the Cranberries release Remembering Dolores on vinyl, a 2LP version of the 2021 digital collection that includes three bonus tracks, a must-have for fans of the band.”
