Outsourcing company Abtran is to create 350 new jobs in Sligo as part of a new expansion.

Abtran, which provides customer and business process management services, is establishing a new regional operations centre at Finisklin Business Park in Sligo, which will be up and running later this year.

The company employs more than 2,000 people in Cork, Dublin, Kildare and southern India.

Abtran, which was established in 1997, runs the helpline for the State’s Local Property Tax (LPT) and also does administrative work for Irish Water. It marks its 21st anniversary this year.

Other clients of the company include Sky, the Health Service Executive, Electric Ireland and the Road Safety Authority.

"Ireland will continue to be a key part of the global growth ambitions that we have as the country's largest home-grown business process outsourcing (BPO) provider," said Abtran chief executive Pat Ryan. "We also believe it is very important to support national and regional economic development wherever possible through the growth of our operations."

Elevare growth

Irish-owned on-site support services company Elevare said it is creating 50 jobs in the next two years following significant growth in the social media and banking sectors.

The company, which has headquarters in Cork and offices in Dublin, also officially opened its London office as it targets growth in the UK market.

Elevare said 30 of the new jobs would be in Dublin, with the remaining 20 in the new London office, with roles including management and operational support staff.

The firm has also won a contract with financial infrastructure provider Deutsche Börse Group, to provide security and reception services to the company at its new Irish headquarters at Navigation Square in Cork. The contract is worth €400,000 over three years.

Elevare has grown 40 per cent in the past three years, and last year experienced 20 per cent growth.

The Abtran announcement was welcomed by Sligo Chamber of Commerce. Its president, Fiona Candon, said the high level of skilled professional in the north west had been a significant factor in Abtran’s decision to locate its new operations hub in the region.
