Alan Murphy has been "elected" for a third term as managing partner of Eversheds, a Dublin law firm with designs on the city's top tier of legal eagles. A third term? Only the likes of Bertie Ahern or Vladimir Putin get three terms.

Murphy, who earned his corn as one of the State’s top property lawyers during the glory years, is digging in for another period of growth at Eversheds. As he whiled away the time in an airport lounge, he told me the firm has recorded 15 per cent revenue growth each year for the last two years.

He also chairs the board of the European network of Eversheds’ firms – handy when you’re chasing contracts with global multinationals, such as chemicals giant

Murphy envisages consolidation in Dublin’s legal world this year. “We’re certainly keen to explore it. We’re very ambitious,” he said.

Eversheds added almost 80 staff last year, bringing its total to about 225 in the capital. “We will hopefully add another 20 or 30 staff this year, and I anticipate another year of double-digit growth.”
