Royal Bank of Scotland shareholders gave their backing to the bank's bid for National Westminster Bank yesterday

Shareholders, who had been expected to give the bid a green light, voted 488 million in favour of the bid, with 5.9 million voting against. The Scottish bank is competing against its rival Bank of Scotland for NatWest, which owns Ulster Bank.
