The Small Claims Court's online system was recognised as one of the top public-sector technology projects at an awards ceremony in Dublin last night.
The system allows members of the public to lodge and manage their claims online and is currently being piloted at 16 court offices around the country. It won the Government to Citizen category at the Eircom Innovation Through Technology Awards.
The awards were dominated by internet-related projects which broadly fall into the area of e-government.
The Property Registration Authority was recognised in the Government to Business category for its digital mapping project.
Carlow County Council received the best partnership award for its deployment of a wireless broadband network in Carlow town centre in association with E-net, which has now been adopted as a national pilot project.
Other winners included the Central Statistics Office for a statistical database hosting service and Mayo County Council for its introduction of internal management applications.
The most innovative public-sector organisation was South Dublin County Council, while the most innovative individual was Deirdre Sharrock, webmaster with Meath County Council.
