The venture capital arm of the US chip giant Intel is among several firms that have invested €5.65 million in the Irish software company Straatum Processware.

Straatum Processware, which was previous known as Scientific Systems Ltd, will use the cash to expand the division of its business that develops software to detect faults in the semiconductor manufacturing process.

The company's latest funding round was led by Vision Capital, a transatlantic venture capital firm. Straatum Processware's existing investor, ACT Venture Capital, also reinvested in the firm in the new round.

Intel Capital's investment is a boost for the firm because of its crucial link with the world's biggest chip maker.
