Cars are becoming increasingly more high tech these days, from some fancy in-car entertainment systems to those self driving ones that Google has been testing.
While the Knight Rider-style KIT is still a little off, you can get quite a bit of high-tech gadgets in your dash these days. Take the Audi TT for example. Aside from being a really great car to drive, it also has a virtual cockpit. No physical dials and gauges on your dashboard; the Audi comes with a screen that will display all your car's information in addition to maps, entertainment and connections.
The controls for air conditioning etc are also digital. There’s a couple of good points about this. First of all, you can adjust the size of the dials, making it easier to see the speedometer if you need a giant reminder to take the lead foot off the accelerator from time to time. Secondly, you can scroll through the menu to change the screen to your phonebook, navigation and even hook up your Twitter account via the Audi app. It’s all right there in front of you.
The addition of Google Earth to the virtual cockpit’s mapping system is a handy tool, but you can switch back to the regular style maps if it isn’t your thing.
