A recent survey of 161 senior information security and technology professionals, by technology recruitment firm Harvey Nash, found a quarter of organisations do not include cybersecurity considerations in their risk processes.

It also found 18 per cent of security professionals do not know what they are trying to protect and 28 per cent do not know who has access to the organisation’s most sensitive assets.

Against this backdrop, Harvey Nash is hosting an event at the Innovation Hub in Dublin tomorrow to assess the Irish cybersecurity landscape and examine the most potent threats facing businesses at present and in the future.

Harvey Nash head of infrastructure recruitment Bryan Smith, Integrity360 Cyber-risk and assurance director Seán Rooney and BCC Risk Advisory chief technology officer Eoin Keary will be among the speakers. They will highlight what businesses can do to be proactive in prevention and the upcoming changes to ISO standards.

Meanwhile, ProStrategy will hold a free event centred on this new gamechanging era of analytics and how it can and should be utilised.

The event, hosted by ProStrategy and IBM, will focus on the emerging technologies that enable companies to use their data in new ways and look at the latest industry trends that support the critical link between data technology and analytics.

ProStrategy managing director John Coleman said next generation analytics is being shaped by the ever-evolving data explosion.

“Information of substantial size, diversity and complexity is everywhere. Defining an integrated data technology and analytics strategy is a critical business driver to delivering newer and faster insights into the critical information which really matters, and will change the way people do business and help achieve business growth.”

He said approximately 85 per cent of Fortune 500 organisations are unable to exploit big data for competitive advantage.

“I find this incredible, as a company’s data-rich resources can be their most powerful asset when used with the right analytics strategy,” he added.
