My earliest memories of Facebook consist of endless invites to Farmville and Bejeweled. Argh. If no one answered the first 50 times then they don't want to join you in feeding your virtual swine or swiping at neon-coloured gems.
A decade later, Facebook is finally retiring this feature so no more having to manually turn these alerts off for each individual game. Invites to third-party apps will no longer be available. Hallelujah!
"With the release of the Facebook SDK version 4.28.0, App Invites is deprecated. It will be supported until February 5, 2018," Facebook software engineer Ming Li said in an official blog post.
He also noted that the Send and Follow buttons were also being phased out in favour of the Share and Like buttons, respectively.
Of course, no one really games on Facebook anymore. It's all about ulcer-inducing bad news or inspirational videos. We'll have to tell our kids of a time when social networks were playgrounds and Zynga ruled Facebook.
