Intel has appointed Irishwoman Dr Ann Kelleher as executive vice president, the first time an Irish person has held the role.

The announcement was made by Intel chief executive Pat Gelsinger. "Thrilled to share that Dr. Ann Kelleher is now @Intel executive vice president. So well-deserved with her many contributions including the turnaround of our Tech Dev organization this past year," Mr Gelsinger posted on Twitter.

Dr Kelleher joined Intel in 1996 as a process engineer. She is currently general manager of Technology Development at Intel Corporation, responsible for the research, development and deployment of next-generation silicon logic, packaging and test technologies.

Prior to that, Dr Kelleher was general manager of manufacturing and operations, and served as co-general manager of the Technology and Manufacturing Group.
