UPC has unveiled a new app that will allow customers to use their home phone service on their smartphone.

The Horizon Phone App will be available for both Android and iOS, and can be used over wifi. It allows customers to use the minutes and call rates included in their home phone allowance with UPC, with up to three family members permitted to use the service at the same time.

The company is targeting families and frequent travellers with the new app, claiming it will help save money on mobile phone credit and roaming charges. It also allows parents to monitor usage and devices through the My UPC service.

The company last week announced it would start trialling a new wifi service in Limerick, Horizon Wi-Free, which allows UPC customers to access wifi hotpots free of charge.
