Newly launched carrier Great Dane Airlines will begin flying from Dublin to Aalborg in Denmark this summer.
Denmark’s newest airline has published details of its proposed services, showing that it plans to operate between the capital and its base at Aalborg Airport from June.
The airline will fly twice a week from Dublin Airport between June 21st and July 26th, after which it will operate once a week until October 15th.
Great Dane’s website has recently gone live and is selling tickets for the Dublin-Aalborg flights along with other services.
Great Dane is using leased Embraer E195 craft, which can carry up to 118 passengers to fly between Aalborg and a number of cities around Europe, including Edinburgh in Scotland and Nice in southern France.
An estimated 8,000 people flew indirectly between Dublin and Aalborg last year, indicating that there is reasonable demand for a service connecting the cities.
Nightlife city
Aalborg, in the north of the Jutland Peninsula, is Denmark's fourth-biggest city and is known for its nightlife. Irish carrier Ryanair offers flights there from British airports.
The area around it is home to data centres operated by multinational technology companies, and it is thought this is responsible for some of the traffic between this country and the Danish city.
Great Dane’s flights will be the 23rd new service that Dublin Airport will have added this year.
In the first two months of the 2019, the airport, Ireland’s biggest, handled more than four million passengers, 9 per cent more than during the same period last year.
In 2018, a record 31.5 million passengers passed through Dublin Airport. It now serves close to 200 destinations in 43 countries.
