While we are on the topic of Aer Lingus executives, a colleague recently spied a copy of a letter from Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar to Impact union official Matt Staunton.
In it, the Minister reiterates his “concern” at the €175,000 pension top-up paid to Aer Lingus boss Christoph Mueller last year, at the same time as the airline’s workers’ scheme lies in the mire.
Varadkar promised Staunton, who has called the payment an “insult”, that he will “consult” other Ministers on the subject “in the next couple of weeks”.
I wonder if his consultations will be finished by the time of the airline’s annual general meeting next month, at which Varadkar is being urged to vote against Mueller’s pay pot.
