To whom does the new Consumer Protection Code apply?

• Credit institutions, ie banks and building societies;

• Insurance companies;

• Investment business firms (except when conducting MiFID* services);

• Mortgage intermediaries

• Credit unions (when providing services authorised by the Financial Regulator)

To whom does the code NOT apply?

Any of the regulated groups above when they are:

• providing services outside Ireland;

• providing MiFID services;

• providing the services of a moneylender (within the meaning of the Consumer Credit Act 1995);

• carrying on the business of reinsurance or reinsurance mediation;

• if the firm is a credit union, if providing services which do not require authorisation by the Financial Regulator
