A man in his 30s arrested in connection with the seizure of €185,000 of ecstacy and cocaine in Co Cork on Saturday has been charged. He is expected to appear before a special sitting of Mallow District Court on Monday at 11:30am. A woman in her 30s who was also arrested has been released without charge. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Gardaí carried out a search at a premises in Douglas, Cork at 4pm on Saturday as part of Operation Tara. Gardaí attached to the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit discovered and seized 15,000 ecstasy tablets, with an estimated street value of €150,000 and half a kilogramme of cocaine, worth €35,000.
The drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis. Garda investigations are ongoing.
This seizure forms part of Operation Tara the an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in July 2021.
