Gardaí investigating a hit and run in Cork which left a pedestrian with a fractured pelvis and other injuries are hoping that a forensic examination of the car involved will help them identify the culprits.
The incident happened at around 6.45pm on Saturday, December 28th when a man in his 50s was struck by a car that mounted the footpath and failed to stop as he was walking on Rathpeacon Road between the Old Mallow Road and the Commons Road on the northern outskirts of Cork city.
The man was knocked to the ground but managed to call for assistance and the emergency services attended at the scene, and he was removed by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where was treated for a number of bone fractures and other injuries.

Gardaí were alerted and they found the car abandoned a short distance away and the car was removed to a secure location where gardaí technical experts have begun a forensic examination.

Gardaí have established the car was not stolen but was bought a number of weeks ago, but the buyer gave false details to the vendor and they also established that it was fitted with false number plates sometime after being bought.
However, gardaí have found no evidence the car was used in any criminality since its purchase and fitting with false number plates, but they are continuing to harvest CCTV footage from filling stations around the city in a bid to try to establish who was driving it.
Gardaí have spoken to the victim and taken a detailed statement from him, and he told officers that he believed that there were both a driver and a passenger in the car.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward and they are particularly anxious to speak to any road users who were in the Rathpeacon area between 6.20pm and 6.55pm and have dash cam footage to contact them.
