Gardaí have made a sixth arrest in connection with the fatal assault on Quham Babatunde in the South Anne Street area last month.

A man in his 20s was arrested on Thursday afternoon and is being detained at a Garda station in Dublin under Section 4 of Criminal Justice Act.

Mr Babatunde, who was aged 34 and an asylum seeker from Nigeria, was stabbed three times and died in the early hours of February 15th.

On February 26th, Sean Forde (23), was refused bail when he appeared before Judge John Cheatle, charged with violent disorder in relation to the row.

Det Gda Will McCarthy told Dublin District Court the accused and a group of associates had a VIP booth in the Twenty Two Nightclub. They left at about 2.30am when a large group of people emptied on to the street. He said the vast majority of the people leaving the venue were innocent bystanders.

At about 3am, a large fight broke out that was allegedly instigated by Mr Forde’s friends and multiple random people “for minor perceived slights.”

The detective said one of Mr Babatunde’s friends, Adetola Adetuilehim, came to his aid and was set upon and assaulted by the same group.

Mr Forde was not involved in this but was among the group and “centrally involved in the violent disorder incident”, the officer said.

Ryan Ndede (23) from Boroimhe Birches in Swords, Co Dublin, was remanded in custody when he appeared in court in Belfast on February 21st charged with Mr Babatunde’s murder. The court heard Mr Ndede was arrested by the PSNI the day after the fatal assault on board a ferry from Belfast to Liverpool.

On February 25th, Jeffrey Bangu (21) appeared in court accused of assault, brandishing a knife and violent disorder connected to the fatal stabbing.

No application for bail on behalf of Mr Bangu, of Cardy Rock Crescent, Balbriggan, Co Dublin, was made when he appeared before Judge Alan Mitchell at Cloverhill District Court. Mr Bangu’s case is back before the court on March 11th.

Rory Carr (21), of Ard Na Gréine, Seapoint Lane in Balbriggan, has also been charged in relation to the incident. He was charged with violent disorder and assault causing harm to a second man.

Judge Paul Murphy granted Mr Carr free legal aid and remanded him in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court
