Man arrested as herbal cannabis valued at more than €2m seized at Cork port

The 107kg seizure was discovered in a trailer originating from Croatia

A man has been arrested after herbal cannabis valued at more than €2 million was seized in Cork port.

Some 93 packets containing 107kg of the drug were found Sunday at the port on Sunday in a joint Garda and Revenue operation.

The drugs, valued at €2.1m, were discovered with the assistance of detector dog Rua in a truck originating from Croatia, which had disembarked a vessel arriving from Zeebrugge in Belgium.

A man in his 50s was arrested and is being held at a Garda station in in the Southern Region under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. Investigations are ongoing.

The seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by the Cork Divisional Drugs Unit and Revenue’s Customs Service.
