Man arrested over assault on man in his 80s in Tipperary

A Tipperary man in his 80s remains in a serious condition after being attacked by a suspected burglar on Friday.

Gardaí believe the victim interrupted the suspect as he was attempting to break into a garage in the garden of the elderly man’s home in Tipperary town.

The victim was later found on the ground beside the garage and rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick. He remains in a critical condition.

A man, aged in his 30s, has been arrested is being held under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a Garda station in Co Tipperary.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after responding to the report of the assault on St Michael’s Avenue in Tipperary town on Friday at about 9.35pm.

The scene was preserved pending an examination, and investigations are ongoing.

Anyone who was in the area of St Michael’s Avenue between 7pm and 10pm and has video footage is asked to make it available to gardaí.
