Mixed martial artist Conor McGregor has been remanded on continuing bail pending possible further charges in his dangerous driving prosecution in Dublin.
The 33-year-old came to the attention of gardaí while driving a high-performance Bentley Continental GT on March 22nd last in west Dublin. The UFC fighter was subsequently pulled over and arrested.
Gardaí charged Mr McGregor with two counts of dangerous driving in the 2019-reg car at the N4/M50 interchange in Palmerstown and the Lucan Road, driving without insurance, having no licence and failing to produce his documents within 10 days.
There was a brief court hearing in April and he was given an 11-week adjournment after solicitor Michael Staines confirmed he had shown the arresting officer a copy of his client’s insurance and licence.
Mr McGregor was at Blanchardstown District Court on Thursday for a brief hearing. He moved into the defendant’s bench and listened to the proceedings once his case was called.
Court Garda Sgt Walter Sweeney told Judge David McHugh that the case file was with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and he asked for an adjournment “for consideration of further charges”.
Mr Staines told Judge McHugh he had discussed the matter with Mr McGregor and he consented. However, the accused has not yet indicated a plea. Garda Denis Lordon, of Lucan station, told a previous hearing that Mr McGregor made no reply when charged.
Judge McHugh remanded Mr McGregor, with an address at Ladycastle, Straffan, Co Kildare, to appear again on September 8th for the DPP’s directions in the case.
Dangerous driving carries a maximum fine on conviction of up to €5,000 and six months imprisonment.
