The grand dame of r'n'b hooks up with the grand poobahs of Irish rock for a version of their classic ballad. Sounds like something you'd see at the Grammies, but at least we're not talking Westlife and Mariah Carey. Bono starts the proceedings but then graciously hands the mic over to Mary, who takes the song a little higher.

THE PIPETTES Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me Memphis Industries ***

You want a cross between The Shangri-Las, The Belle Stars and Toni Basil? No? Then this perky number isn't for you. The Pipettes are the leaders of the retro girlie-pop pack, and they'll be blowing up at a go-go near you soon.

ADAM GREEN Nat King Cole Rough Trade **

The former Moldy Peaches man is trying to get taken a bit more seriously, but he's saddled with a cavernous voice that makes him sound like an Elvis impersonator doing a cover of Gloria. It works better on the B-side's Buddy Holly and Sam Cooke covers.

SUPERJIMENEZ Helicopters Reekus ***

Something Happens had parachutes, but this new Irish quartet come armed with whirlybirds, and more guitars than you can shake a joystick at. Hope they know how to fly that thing.

WOLFMOTHER Dimension Modular ***

The psychedelic prog trio serve up a dose of Purple Haze, a dollop of Cream and a big helping of Black Sabbath. It's another dimension alright, but us dadrockers are right at home here.

BRAKES All-Night Disco Party Rough Trade ****

We raved about this super, non-stop über-rocking anthem last summer, and since then the tune has partied its way around the world. Here's a mix by Graham Sutton that retains the rock elements while still keeping it dancefloor friendly.

DAMIEN "JR GONG" MARLEY Beautiful featuring Bobby Brown Universal **

Bob's kid is keeping the Marley dynasty on top with this jazzy tune about a lady who washes his dreads (they're hard to find), backed with splashing saxophones. Bobby Brown's muscled his way in there somehow.
