Now this is cute. Alien Spidy is a jaunty side-scrolling, 2D plat- form game in which you play a tiny but resourceful spider. Traversing hostile landscapes, he must deal with animals, insects, plants, and rolling and falling fruit and seeds. The plants have varying qualities, so one must be careful that, say, a hanging fruit doesn't give way and drop our hero to his doom. The controls work well, with one stick controlling the spider and another in charge of the direction of his web, which he uses to swing Tarzan-style out of sticky situations. Players are rewarded both for evading death and for accumulating bonuses and power-ups, and there are non-linear and hidden levels. It's sprinkled with funny little animations of the spider – proudly flexing then he finishes a level, for instance, or timidly approaching dangerous ledges. A sweet, lively little platform caper, Alien Spidy should be applauded for its playability and uniqueness, and for making arachnids cute.
