The Glow Festival is returning to Smithfield this year and takes place on Saturday. The lights-themed day runs from 2-6pm. The barn tent on Smithfield Square will host a mix of stories, music, and comedy with Sarah Purcell, Paul Timoney, Sharon Mannion and Paul Tylak. From 4-6pm at the same venue there will be a kids' disco with glow-in-the dark face painting and projections. The Generator Hostel will host big screen Pictionary from 2-4pm, while Emmy Award winning storyboard artist Marten Jonmark will facilitate storyboard workshops in the Doodle Tent from 2-6pm. Little Light presented by Monkeyshine Theatre takes place at Glór, Ennis, Co Clare on Sunday at 12pm and 2pm. Suitable for children aged five and older, it's a tale inspired by Nordic mythology about the adventures of one little girl in the darkest days of the year, and her quest to bring back the Sun. The Nutcracker will be performed at the Solstice Arts Centre in Meath by the children of the Navan School of Ballet on Saturday at 6.30pm and on Sunday at 2.30pm. The RTÉ Contempo Quartet and Irish composer and music producer Glen Austin present a concert that unites the classical music world with Irish rock and pop music from the last 30 years to the present day. The concert is a multi-disciplinary event featuring string quartet with bodhrán, electronics, and visual effects. It will feature new arrangements of songs by U2, Kodaline, The Script, Snow Patrol, Enya, Thin Lizzy, and Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova (Once). The Saturday Art Club takes place at the Wexford Arts Centre from 10.45am-12.15pm for children aged 7-11. The events is aimed at developing their artistic skills and imagination so they can learn new processes and delve into the world of art history through a series of workshops. Children will have the opportunity to produce work inspired by Barbara Hepworth's sculpture using a range of materials, use clay to create a Georgia O'Keefe inspired bowl, and delve into the world of Pop Art and Andy Warhol's work. A Worldwide Christmas with broadcaster Pat Kenny, the Indian Children's Choir, the Rathmines Folk Group and the Salvation Army Band and Choir is a free concert taking place on Saturday. There will be a voluntary collection for the Salvation Army's work with the homeless.
