Anyone out there a fan of Jon Hopkins? Boards of Canada? Brian Eno? Apparet? Walk this way, then. East Londoners Dom Hoare and Andy Gillham have concocted a superb sonic wash that pitches itself somewhere between leftfield lazy dancing and cool commercial chillwave. Label mates of Hopkins and the equally enthralling Marconi Union, Echaskech straddle multiple genres. Yet their assuredness in each counteracts any niggling sense that they might be dilettantes. Nothing could be further from the truth – Origin is the duo's third album, and readily copperfastens their sound design via the use of analogue hardware, piano, acoustic guitar and that crucial ingredient: a fine mixture of woozy ideas and beautifully delicate melody lines. Twisting, turning, swirling – tracks such as Scanners , Ash Fallen and Anomie prove yet again that fresh things c an be made with familiar themes. echaskech.co.uk
